J. Paul Johnson
Born in Scranton, PA ~ 1914. Tech sargent, 5th Army Air Corps, flight engineer on a
B-24. Paul kept the plane flying and enabled them to complete their mission even when the plane was badly shot up or otherwise disabled. Because he was short, he was able to fit in the tail gunner's position, and often subbed for younger crew members on other planes who were afraid to fly. Flew over 50 missions, not counting the "extra" ones flown as tail gunner.
Paul received the Air Medal with oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
