Russell Orlando served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He enlisted in 1944 through 1946. He was assigned to the 57th Fighter Group which was part of the 66th Fighter Squadron stationed in Sicily & Naples, Italy.
Russell was a decorated Sergeant and his military occupational specialty was an Airplane Armorer serving with the 12th Air Force in Italy.
Russell married in 1955 and raised 5 children in Chicago, IL. He owned and operated an Imported Italian Food Store, Vesuvio Macaroni Company for 30 years.
After retirement, he returned to college to complete his
studies. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in History and Politcal Science graduating with High Honors from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. After graduation, he became a substitute teacher in the elementary and high school grades. He enjoyed teaching students about American History and his life experiences in World War II.
Russell passed away in April of 1999 at 73 years old in Chicago. His legacy lives on with his wife, 5 children and 7 grandchildren.
