S/Sgt Robert J. Colchin
He enlisted at Wright Patterson Field in Dayton, Ohio, on 16 April 1942 in the
Army-Air Corps and was assigned to the 45th Air Depot Group.
Shipped out to Springfield, Illinois on 10 May 1942 for Basic Training.
Shipped to Mobile, Alabama on September 1942 to train for Air Corps Supply
Shipped to Newark, New Jersey and arrived at Gurloch, Scotland on July 21, 1943.
Later moved to Grove, England, to set up a supply depot for the 8th Air Corps.
Transferred to the 9th Air Depot at Chartes, France in August 1944.
Stationed in Valenciennes, France in December 1944.
Served in France and Hanau, Germany during 1944 and 1945.
Was assigned to the U S Disarmament Command when the war ended, until
Honorably discharged on 15 March 1946.
He worked in Civil Service at Wright Patterson in Dayton, Ohio until 1952. He
Then transferred to Kelly Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas and worked there
Achieving a GS-15, he retired in 1986. He enjoyed years of retirement with his
family. He was married for 59 years, a Dad of 2 children and a grandfather of two grandsons.
He passed away on March 9th, 2005 at the age of 83.
He was proud to have been a World War II veteran, and loved his country.
